As ever, I am indebted to too many people to mention, but Derek, Bill, Jasmine and every one of the Calvin Ayre team, as well as Calvin himself of course, have all shown a lot of faith in me to carry the torch and I hope I’ve done them all credit.

Former US congressman George Santos has been permanently prohibited from trading on the prediction market Kalshi, the company announced late last week. 

Friday’s announcement followed an investigation that found he manipulated contract prices linked to his anticipated attendance at the 2026 State of the Union address.

He was also fined $71,356.

On the earnings call, Bengtsson said Sun International viewed “plenty of inorganic opportunities” around the business.

“We have said that many times before,” he added. “I think it consists of multiple aspects. We are still open to and keen on consolidating minorities if there is opportunity that is being presented.

“In terms of the SunBet business, there might be opportunities to consolidate locally, but there might also be opportunities outside of South Africa. We are looking at all of it, but we have a very high bar for what we deem to be good investments.”
